Event - International Urban Design Conference: Waves of Change - Cities at Crossroads

Posted in Events, Models by fedwards on July 2nd, 2007

This conference will review the future urban design of our communities and cities in light of climate change, our energy crisis, our ecological & social responsibilities. The wave of environmental challenges will affect communities through global warming and likely sea level rise. The ability of urban centres world-wide to cope with the impacts of high level fuel costs will also be examined. The physical separation of home from work and recreation may need to be re-addressed in city design.

Day one will face these challenges.
Day two will show how to use “design” to meet the challenges by offering local and international models to optimise for the future.
Day three will concentrate on ‘how to build the capacity’ and the capabilities of communities, politicians and policy makers to effect the necessary changes for a more sustainable, better and lasting future.

This conference will be attended by many, including policy makers, politicians, industry, design professionals, architects, engineers, town planners, urban designers and ocial planners… and those in the community who are keen to learn what’s working well nationally and internationally in meeting the challenges which confront fast-changing communities.
