Model – Denmark invests in offshore wind park
Another world first as Denmark has started building the world’s largest offshore wind park in the North Sea with goals to generate 75% of its electricity needs with wind power by 2025. The planned production of 160 megawatts of electricity is enough to meet the needs of 150,000 homes for a year. This investment in alternative energy follows from the Danish Government’s plans announced in January to double the country’s renewable energies to at least 30% of all energy consumed in Denmark by 2025.
Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen says, “We aim to make Denmark independent of oil, gas and coal in the long term…. and strengthen our position as a world leader in clean energy”.
Other countries investing in wind energy include Germany, Spain, Italy, Britain, France and the Netherlands. For more information about Denmark’s wind farms, click here.
